The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few key adjustments:
- Each team includes only 8 real players, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and another lists everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback
All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
