One of the co-founders behind the well-known ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has stated how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate blocked the introduction for an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the business alongside his partner, disclosed how he plans to independently develop this new flavor as part of a personal series highlighting issues the company was prevented from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Conflict Between Creators and Corporate Owner

The recent announcement deepens the ongoing conflict between the world-famous ice cream maker and Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods giant that acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders have claimed how Unilever and their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Flavor becoming an Emblem for Support

Mr. Cohen announced via an Instagram video that he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, requesting consumer ideas for naming options and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder commented in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that advocates for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem for support for Palestinians because of its coloration, which mirror those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Activism plus Current Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in areas occupied by Israel, resulting in Unilever selling their Israel business to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series is being developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company which originally established several years back to support ex- political contender Bernie Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts plus Upcoming Intentions

Mr. Cohen revealed how he plans to develop other ice cream flavors focusing on issues which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement follows partner Jerry Greenfield resigned from the company recently, after many years of involvement, citing concerns regarding how its independence had been compromised following Unilever's decision to restrict their advocacy work.

At that time, Ben Cohen commented how "Jerry has a really big heart and this conflict with Unilever was breaking it."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for its independence so that it can achieve the social mission, the values which established its foundation while upholding for decades," he explained to journalists.
