Followers Urge Custody of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are urging that a individual who leaped a fence and grabbed the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared footage depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past media personnel and charging at Grande while the performers made its way down a promenade flanked by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the gathering by event staff.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being detained", though court documents indicated that he was scheduled to appear on the following morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed features recordings of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney performance in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last winter.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user questioned.
Fans Voice Worry Over Ariana's Well-being
Several supporters blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from PTSD after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented another comment on Instagram.
Some supporters also criticised security officers at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while some called for online networks to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande seemed startled when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Many of attendees had gathered in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore venue, including several who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a dual interpretation of the popular stage musical Wicked, which centers on the surprising friendship between two contrasting characters.
The show itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of 2024 in the UK, and received 10 Oscar nominations, earning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
