Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for questions to be asked about his future following a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from the top,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with results like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
